Becoming one in Christ

40 Days of Prayer

Day 20

Reflect the Submission of Christ

Jake Tonak, Pastor, Redemption City, Rochester MN

"Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ." Ephesians 5:21 (NIV)

Submission is the hallmark of the Christian life. Our submission to Christ is reflected in how we submit in other relationships. Husbands and wives, children and parents, slaves and masters all demonstrate their faith through humble submission. So, what is the evidence that the Spirit is working in a child's heart? Paul would have us to look at their willing submission to their parents. What is the evidence that the Spirit is working in you? Consider if you are willingly submitting to whatever authority God has placed in your life.

The work of the Spirit continually conforms us into the image of Christ. Therefore, as we reflect Christ from one degree to the next, we too will reflect the life of submission that characterized the life of Christ. He was sent by the Father and sought not His own will, but only that of Him who sent Him. Even in His death upon the cross, Christ's motives were submission to His Father.

As we follow this same path of submission in our lives we must be submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, we ask that you would give us joy and delight in our submission. That we could become more like your Son in every aspect of our lives. Help us to not rebel in pride against your authority but reflect the submission of Christ.
