Becoming one in Christ

40 Days of Prayer

Day 6

Live in Harmony with One Another

Paul Springer, Lead Pastor, Northwest, Racine WI

Read Romans 12:9-21.

"Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight." Romans 12:16 (ESV)

Imagine a choir where everyone sang the same song, but as soloists. If they sang at their own tempo, in their own key, without regard for any other voices, the results would be horrible.

As Christians we have one song, the gospel of Jesus Christ. However, we can get so busy with our own part, that we neglect those brothers and sisters around us. One of the marks of a Christian according to this section of Romans 12 is that we seek to be better together. We don't avoid the diverse gifts and backgrounds God has blessed us with instead we strive to bring them together in a beautiful, united display of Jesus' love.

This takes humility on each our parts. This takes reaching out to each other rather than relying only on ourselves. But it allows our Great Director, Jesus, to lead us not just personally, but as a church to live out His love, not just to each other but also to a world that needs to hear the gospel clearly.

What relationships do you need to mend to better live in harmony with others in your church?

PRAYER: Lord, help us not to merely exist near fellow believers, but to live in harmony with them. Teach us the humility needed to appreciate the beauty in all those for whom you died. Be glorified in my life and the lives of those I minister together with in my church.
